Problems and challenges
Regarding soil cultivation, there is a constant problem of wear. The wear of agricultural equipment (eg. edge tools, plough-share), their change and repair cause severe challenges. The primary cause of wear on the agricultural equipments is the soil. Soil regional variations cause different wear rates. Given the similar characteristics of soil of the Southern Great Plain from Hungary and Banat plain zone, a joint study on the degree of wear and repair methods is useful and justified.
Soil cultivation equipment which can be purchased in commerce is usually not wear-resistant, their substrate is usually structural steel, spring steel or special steel. If the edge of agricultural equipment is too thick, it prevents water and air from getting into the soil, and it also hinders the development of plant roots. If the edge is weary, it does not cut plant roots.
Thus, wear-resistance is important from two aspects:
Taking into account the modern trends to reduce energy consumption and the objective to operate ecologically, it is necessary to find prevention and repair methods to prolong the life of the equipment used for land processing considering that in the action area's economy agriculture is given special emphasis in which several million people are employed. The solution to the problems can be the development of surfaces with new physical and chemical structures (alloys).
Contribution of the project to the EU, national, regional and local strategies
In accordance with EU Lisbon Strategy, the project contributes to the establishment of conditions of knowledge-based society.
In line with the amendments of Goteborg Summit, it also consents to environment protection, development of economic growth, since with the means of agricultural equipment’s development, it strengthens economic activities which are environmentally sustainable.
Besides the above mentioned aspects, th project is in harmony with the partners’ national developmental strategies (New Szechenyi Plan, National Development Plan 2007-2013). Strategic significance of crossborder and interregional cooperation is emphasized as well.
In accordance with Agricultural Environment Management Program (AKG) which is part of the New Hungarian Rural Developmental Program (UMVP), the project’s objective is to develop a methodology which results in sustainable, environment friendly cultivational practice. It provides balance between nature conservation agriculture and rural development, since these areas are organically connected. The project also consents to regional and local strategies to protect the environment.
